Implantology - is a field of dentistry related to dental implants. Implantological treatment is dedicated to patients who suffer from a LACK of at least one tooth. We do not consider wisdom teeth, which are generally redundant and problematic.
Thanks to implantology, you will become the owner of full teeth, and thus you will regain the joy of life and self-confidence. Tooth implants fully replace the natural tooth. This is the most aesthetic and most comfortable treatment offered by dentistry. After full integration with the bone, the implant is completely imperceptible, does not react to heat or cold, does not cause pain. With respect to hygiene and the absence of accompanying systemic diseases, the implant is a lifelong solution, comfortable for the patient and the best for the condition of the remaining teeth. Tooth implants - everything you need to know about them.
What is a dental implant?
This is a structure that allows you to restore lost or missing teeth, a small screw-shaped piece that is inserted into the bone. It is the so-called tooth root for the future crown. It is made of a properly selected material (titanium, zirconium oxide), which makes it a solid basis for tooth reconstruction. The implant is placed in the place where the tooth root used to be in the past. A prosthetic crown is mounted on the implant, imitating its own tooth - matched in terms of color and shape to the remaining teeth. Modern dentistry allows the use of implants and tooth crowns made of various materials.
Which implant should you choose? This is usually decided by the dentist who uses his experience, as well as takes into account the suggestions and budget of the patient. An extremely important issue is the anatomical structure of the bone, the structure of the dentition and expectations regarding the aesthetics of implants. We reach for implant treatment both in the case of the loss of one tooth, as well as in the case of the need to rebuild numerous missing teeth. In the second case, for example, several dental implants are mounted, which form the basis for a prosthesis using bridges.
The main causes of tooth loss are most often:
destruction by caries,
unfortunate fracture ended with tooth extraction,
years untreated periodontitis,
teeth cracked after root canal treatment, which cannot be used for prosthetic reconstruction,
unformed tooth buds.
Dental implants can be divided into single-phase and two-phase.
Two-phase implants definitely dominate in Medessence. Treatment with them is as follows: In the first place, the implantologist, Dr. Paweł Kulesza, implants an implant, which is to replace the root in the bone. The treatment success is based on the full integration of the implant with the surrounding tissues, which takes place for 3 months after implantation. After 3-6 months after the procedure and the implant has healed, the implantologist installs a healing screw, which is to adapt the soft tissues (gum) for future reconstruction. The next stage, one month after the installation of the healing screw, is to visit Dr. Sobczyńska and take impressions for the target prosthetic crown. Waiting for the final crown is typically one week. This visit completes the entire process. Control visits and minor adjustments are included in the treatment scenario.
Single-phase implants, in turn, allow the installation of the implant with the superstructure in just one visit. However, this treatment will not be applicable to every patient. In order to be able to conduct it, it is necessary, among others perfect oral hygiene, no bone defects, good condition of the remaining teeth. Another issue is the fact that it is a much higher cost at one time and a greater risk of failure.
What are the contraindications for dental implants?
Pregnancy and unstable diabetes for sure. It significantly hinders the healing of wounds, making implant placement very troublesome. Implants will also not be used in cancer patients.
Another contraindication is the unfinished process of jaw bone growth, which lasts approximately until the age of 17. Patients with heart defects, Parkinson's disease, bone tissue diseases and mental diseases should be consulted with a specialist. Bone tissue disorders and the other mentioned are not absolute contraindications, but require consultation. It is also worth mentioning the local contraindications. This category includes, for example, the too narrow width or height of the jaw bone. Sometimes there are situations when the patient has a lot of bone but not enough space to make a crown. Then orthodontic treatment or treatment with a prosthetic bridge should be considered. Contraindications to dental implants are also injuries, diseases and inflammation in the places where they are to be found.
Preparation for implantology consultation / surgery.
Before a consultation or implant surgery in Medessence in Warsaw, it is necessary to conduct several tests. It is necessary to perform computed tomography, more precisely cone beam tomography (CBCT). 3D photos allow the implantologist to assess the quality and quantity of bones and the condition of adjacent teeth. This allows the treatment to be carefully planned. The implantologist, thanks to the conical tomography, also measures the size of the sinuses, sees the topography of the nerves, Thanks to the radiological examination, he can plan whether bone augmentation is needed, and what size and type of implant to choose for the most effective treatment. ”That is, a test without which no implantologist surgeon will undertake treatment. Additionally, it is recommended to perform blood count with smear, ESR, glucose concentration, blood clotting time, vitamin D level and lipidograms. Based on the above tests, a specialist can predict whether the healing processes after implantation will run properly.
Equally important is a clinical examination during which a doctor assesses the general condition of the oral cavity and teeth, with particular emphasis on gum disease and carious lesions.
Have you ever heard of sinus lift? Before starting implant treatment in the jaw, it is sometimes necessary to undergo a sinus lift. The sinus lift involves introducing a special material or a patient's bone graft under the membrane, which transforms into a full-fledged bone after a few months. A fundus lift is performed under local anesthesia. Healing after lifting the sinus floor takes an average of several months. After the sinus lift, a cool, liquid and semi-liquid diet is recommended.
How is the implant placement going step by step?
The time of placing one dental implant is on average about 20 - 40 minutes.
On the day of the procedure, immediately before the procedure, the patient signs "informed consent" for the implantation.
The patient is required to have a CD with the current CBCT or panoramic radiograph. Usually we have access to a platform with online results,
however, you should be protected against possible technical problems. Then the patient is placed on the dentist's chair and is provided with special,
sterile protective clothing. The doctor gives local anesthesia. infiltration. The patient is conscious and aware throughout the procedure.
Only in rare cases is implant placement under anesthesia. This usually applies to patients with severe dentophobia or who require many hours of
immobilization. In general, the procedure is so quick and painless that it is worth considering the decision about general anesthesia, even in the
case of extensive implantations. After infiltration of the mucosa, the implantologist makes an incision in the gum, delaminates the flap, and then prepares the space for the screw insertion
by gently drilling. A screw is inserted into the implant bed prepared in this way, tightened with a special wrench, and finally surgical sutures are applied.
The seams are usually resorbable, they are absorbed after a month. If they cause discomfort, we invite you to take a photo of them, at least 7-10 days after the procedure.
Post-operative swelling is minimal or absent. You can return to work the same day or the next. This treatment is less traumatic than the surgical chiseling of the lower eights. If necessary, we issue a sick note (L4) upon the patient's request. After the implantation of the teeth implants, the patient is provided with: postoperative recommendations, a prescription with an antibiotic and / or an analgesic, and a cheek cooling bandage, the so-called coldpack Post-operative pain is normal after anesthesia has worn off, healing and any inconvenience vary from patient to patient depending on the number of implants placed simultaneously. However, the patient is provided with painkillers and in most cases does not complain of pain. Routinely, a few days after the procedure, we call you to ask if everything is okay. We want the patient to feel cared for and not miss anything.
What are the recommendations after the implant surgery?
No meals should be eaten for several hours after the procedure.
When the anesthesia stops working and the patient regains feeling, you can eat something light, with a semi-fluid consistency.
Please avoid eating hot food for several days after the treatment. We recommend applying cold compresses (cold pack) immediately after implantation to minimize swelling
. Implantation of dental implants is a treatment that may be associated with pain after the procedure and the appearance of swelling. In this situation, it will be necessary to take painkillers. Additionally, careful but gentle oral hygiene is recommended. Special antibacterial rinses should be used within 7 days of inserting a dental implant. They will speed up healing.
What else should you remember after tooth implantation?
It is forbidden to smoke cigarettes and consume alcohol. For a period of 2 weeks, it is inadvisable to exercise in the swimming pool and visit the sauna or solarium. Please also try not to touch the place where the procedure was performed with your fingers and tongue for 6 weeks after the procedure. Mechanical irritation and infection is absolutely inadvisable. Every person who is planning implantological treatment, i.e. the implantation of dental implants, must know that, like any medical procedure, this one is also at risk of complications. This is due to the fact that the introduced element is a foreign body that can be rejected by the body. The reasons for this can be very different, but the most common result is rejection as a result of non-compliance with post-treatment recommendations. The key issue is also the proper preparation of the patient for the procedure at Medessence in Warsaw. If the tooth implant is properly placed, the risk of implant rejection is minimal. Most often, if at all, patients complain of pain, swelling, discomfort, bruising and tissue swelling.
After the implantation procedure, it is recommended to take anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs. Symptoms such as weakness, fever, sore throat and sore adjacent teeth lasting more than a week should cause anxiety. You may also experience difficulty eating and drinking as well lymphatic enlargement. Then please contact the reception immediately.

Interesting facts:
The tooth implant itself is invisible. In the oral cavity, we only see a crown mounted on an implant.
The screw (implant) is visible in the radiograph. A dental implant is not a contraindication to MRI.
Even a larger number of implants does not trigger sound alarms when passing through gates, e.g. at the airport.
There are no contraindications for traveling by air immediately before or after implant surgery. When it comes to a tooth implant, there is no upper age limit for surgery with dental implants.
You can feel comfortable at any age. It is an extremely universal treatment.
Finally, we remind you: Before the procedure of implantation of even a single implant, consultation with the specialist doctor who is to perform the procedure, Dr. Paweł Kulesza, is required. We invite you to consult the current CBCT study.
